Miami winters are mild, and that is exactly why so many people book a villa here between November and April. But a sunny afternoon does not mean a warm pool. After a cool night, unheated water can feel cold, and one cold front can turn the pool into something you only look at.
The numbers explain it. At Miami International Airport, NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 climate normals put the average January high at 76°F and the average low at 61°F. The ocean cools too: NOAA’s historical average water temperature off Miami Beach is about 71°F in January and 73°F in February.

Do you need a heated pool in Miami in winter?
If swimming matters to you and you are coming between late November and March, usually yes. Days are often warm enough for the beach, but the water loses heat overnight.
In October, early November and from April on, many pools are comfortable without heating.
Treat heating as essential if you are traveling with young children, if you like an evening swim, or if your plan for the trip is slow mornings by the water.
Pool, heated pool, infinity pool, spa: what the listing really means
- “Pool” does not mean “heated pool.” Many listings simply say pool. Unless heating is written down, it still needs to be confirmed.
- Heat pump or gas heater. Many South Florida homes use a heat pump, which pulls warmth from the air. It is efficient but slow and struggles to hold temperature when the air drops into the 50s during a cold front. A gas heater warms the water faster and copes better on cold nights.
- Heating takes time. Raising a large pool by several degrees can take a day or two. The heater needs to be on before you arrive, not the morning you want to swim.
- The spa often runs on its own. A spa or jacuzzi heats much faster than the pool and may be controlled separately, so a home can have a hot spa and a cool pool at the same time. Ask about both.
- Infinity pool. The water spills over one edge so it seems to meet the bay, the lake or the ocean. It is beautiful at sunset, and because the water keeps moving over that edge, it can lose heat faster on a breezy night. Heating matters even more.
- Sun shelf. A shallow ledge where you can lounge in a few inches of water. It warms quickly in the sun and works well for small children, with an adult close by.
Seven questions to ask before you book
- Is the pool heated, and is the heater working now? Get the answer in writing.
- Is heating included, or is it a separate charge? At many rentals it is billed separately, so ask before you compare homes.
- What temperature can it hold? Many guests like the low to mid 80s°F.
- When will it be switched on? A day or two before check-in is the safe window.
- Is the spa heated too, and separately? Useful for a hot soak after dinner.
- Is there a pool cover? A cover holds heat overnight.
- Is the pool fenced or alarmed, and when does pool service come? The first matters with small children. The second keeps a technician from arriving in the middle of your lunch.

How we get the pool ready before you arrive
The pool is part of our pre-arrival concierge, along with the rest of the house:
- Heating confirmed and switched on with the owner ahead of check-in, so the water is ready on day one.
- Towels, loungers and umbrellas set out before you walk in.
- A poolside lunch or dinner for the household, cooked by a private chef. Our chefs cook any cuisine, and kosher is available.
- Private yoga or Pilates on the terrace by the water.
- A day on the water. From a home with a dock, or from a nearby marina, we add a crewed yacht to the stay. See our villa and yacht package and the Miami yacht charter collection, plus Off-market yachts that are not on the site.
Already rented a villa through another company? We still look after your stay, from the pool and the chef to cars and reservations. See villa concierge in Miami.
Pool rules worth knowing
- Parties and events. Most villas, including Villa Maroc and Villa Lago, do not allow parties or events, and some homes set quiet hours, such as 10 PM at Villa Estan. For a celebration, we plan it on a yacht and keep the villa for the household.
- Glass by the pool. Many owners ask guests to use unbreakable glassware in the pool area. We can have it stocked before you arrive.
- Children. Ask about fences and alarms early, and agree who keeps an eye on the water when the adults are busy.
Frequently asked questions
Are pools at Miami villas heated in winter?
Not automatically. Some homes have heating and some do not, and a heater has to be switched on ahead of time. We confirm it with the owner in writing before you book.
How long does it take to heat a villa pool?
Usually a day or two, depending on the size of the pool, the type of heater and the weather. That is why we ask for it to be on before check-in.
Is the jacuzzi heated if the pool is not?
Often, yes. A spa heats much faster and may be controlled on its own. We check both.
Can you find a villa with a heated infinity pool?
Yes. Send us your dates, your group size and the area you prefer. We check the homes on our site and our Off-market villas, then send a short list with the pool details confirmed.
Is pool heating included in the rate?
It depends on the home. Rates on request. We tell you exactly what is included before you book, so you can compare homes fairly.
