Staying in Brickell
What it is like
Brickell is Miami's financial district, just south of downtown on Biscayne Bay. It is dense and lively, with restaurants, bars, Brickell City Centre and the Metromover, and Brickell Key, a small island of residential towers, just off the bay front.
The homes
Most homes are high-floor residences in towers, many with bay views, pools and concierge desks. Single-family houses are limited and sit on the southern edge, towards The Roads and Coconut Grove.
Privacy and access
In towers, access is controlled by the building. For a private house with a garden, we look at the quieter streets south of Brickell and in nearby Coconut Grove.
By boat
Marinas on and near the bay front put Biscayne Bay, Key Biscayne and the Stiltsville flats within easy reach.
Getting around
- Downtown Miami: about 5 to 10 minutes by car
- South Beach: about 15 to 20 minutes
- Key Biscayne: about 15 to 20 minutes over the Rickenbacker Causeway
- Miami International Airport (MIA): about 15 to 25 minutes
Typical drive times outside rush hour. Causeway traffic and bridge openings can add time.
