Staying on Fisher Island
What it is like
Fisher Island sits just south of South Beach, across Government Cut. There is no bridge or road to it, so the island has no through traffic at all. Life centers on the Fisher Island Club, its beach, marina, restaurants and sports facilities.
The homes
Most residences are apartments and villas within the island community, with a smaller number of private estate homes. Many look over the ocean, the bay or the downtown skyline.
Privacy and access
Access is by the island ferry, private boat or helicopter only, and entry is limited to residents, members and their registered guests. It is one of the most private places to stay in Miami.
By boat
The island has its own marina. From there it is minutes to the open ocean through Government Cut, or into Biscayne Bay for a sandbar afternoon.
Getting around
- South Beach: a few minutes by boat, or about 15 to 20 minutes by ferry and car
- Downtown Miami and Brickell: about 20 to 25 minutes by ferry and car
- Miami International Airport (MIA): about 30 to 40 minutes including the ferry
Typical drive times outside rush hour. Causeway traffic and bridge openings can add time.
