What it is like
Surfside is a small beach town north of Miami Beach, with a relaxed main street on Harding Avenue. Sunny Isles Beach, a few minutes further north past Bal Harbour and Haulover Park, is known for its oceanfront towers and long beach.
The homes
Surfside has quiet streets of single-family homes, some on canals with docks, plus low-rise buildings by the beach. Sunny Isles is mostly high-rise residences directly on the ocean, with large apartments and hotel-style services.
Privacy and access
Surfside homes are on calm residential streets away from the busier parts of Miami Beach. In Sunny Isles, residences are in buildings with front desks and controlled access.
By boat
Haulover Inlet, between the two, is the main route to the open ocean in north Miami-Dade, and the Haulover sandbar is a popular yacht stop.
Getting around
- South Beach: about 20 to 35 minutes by car
- Bal Harbour Shops: about 5 to 15 minutes
- Miami International Airport (MIA): about 30 to 45 minutes
- Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL): about 25 to 40 minutes
Typical drive times outside rush hour. Causeway traffic and bridge openings can add time.
